I made this IPICK poster for my classroom this year as I begin my journey with the Daily 5 and the CAFE. Click here to get the poster.
Also, thanks for the wonderful comments on my new blog button.

Hey Mindy! Thanks for leaving me a comment. I have some ideas about how to get started with Smartboard in Daily 5. I can't find your email address on your blog (I'm sure I'm just missing it :))..If you want, you can email me your address : caseylewisorr@gmail.com
Mindy,
On way I asked students to respond to text was by noting certain areas in the chapter book or text and responding to questions on a post it note. For example, How is ___ changing in this text? Note what he says or does or what others say or do that shows you __- is changing.
Then, when the book is completed, have the student pull out all the post it note comments and save them on a sheet with the name of the book and a date. Later, when they read another book in which you know the character changes, have them pull out their old notes so they can compare how the characters change in two different books. Is it similar?
I guess the gist of it is to start making comparisons between books as you grow as a reader.
